Ebb+Flow

A video installation about a river. About everything and nothing and hardly about a river at all.

Filmed almost entirely on dash-cam and phone, two artists – Rachael Adams and Robert Littleford – try to capture the natural flow of their unfiltered thought processes, while looking at the landscape of the Lower Ouse Valley.

About Littleford+Adams

Littleford+Adams are Robert Littleford and Rachael Adams, when collaborating, they work in the east side of the port town of Newhaven.

They wander about, listening and watching and often just staring out of windows. They are determined yet relaxed. They follow threads and hunches and trust in gut-feelings and enthusiasm.

Robert Littleford

‘My practice includes painting, sculpture and filmmaking – but mostly drawing: it’s always at the heart of what I do – investigating the relationship between the figure and the landscape.

After graduating from the Royal College of Art with an MA in Illustration, my practice developed: illustrating books and magazines, making ceramics for Paul Smith, designing textiles for Jeff Banks, making sculptures for Virgin Airlines, designing window displays for Harvey Nichols, and working on animated features and TV shows for Cartoon Network.’

Rachael Adams

‘Mostly I’m investigating problems, solving conundrums, figuring out stuff: maybe about belonging, or landscapes, or maybe I’m just collecting evidence to share discoveries. How I reveal the findings turns out to be in lists, or pictures or sounds.

I did a Fine Art degree and an MA in Sequential Art, made a living as a digital + print designer & publisher and work with sound, film, graphics, paint and photography.

Newhaven’s Lower Ouse Valley

A geographical region in East Sussex, England, defined by the River Ouse as it flows towards the sea. The valley is known for its historical significance, including Roman settlements and sites of Neolithic importance. It’s also facing challenges related to climate change, including flooding and coastal erosion.

Meta meta

Sincere and ironic, superficial and deep, screen-based and real-life, fabrication and truth, fact and fiction.

Take two oppositional factors without them cancelling each other out, or landing in the average zone between. Unlike the magnet: magnets exert opposing forces on each other.
